ABC 5 Eyewitness News in Minneapolis, MN featured our client, Army veteran Sarah Kay Carlson. ABC 5 notes that we filed Sarah’s lawsuit in April 2019, alleging that 3M’s defective earplugs exposed thousands of soldiers to “extremely dangerous and disabling noise.” ABC 5’s coverage notes that Ms. Carlson provided security to convoys during Operation Iraqi Freedom in the late 2000s.

Carlson said that the noise from mortar rounds had caused “permanent damage that cannot be fixed” and she sometimes suffers “constant ringing” in her ears.

ABC 5 notes that:

The military first started supplying the [3M] Combat Arms Earplugs to protect service members from such debilitating noise back in 2003 — during the early stages of the wars in Iraq and Afghanistan.

Carlson says that she and other service members “put these in everyday … trusting everything.”

ABC 5 featured one of our attorneys, George Hanson, as saying that 3M had jeopardized the hearing of thousands of soldiers because they were supposed to be the military’s “exclusive supplier of combat based ear plugs.”
